The Facts on Auto Insurance

Automobile insurance can be very complex. It's our job as your insurance representative to help you understand your insurance coverage, and different coverage options.

Anyone who owns a licensed vehicle in Alberta is required by law to carry "mandatory" coverage’s.

Mandatory Coverage

Third Party Liability (Section A)

When you drive a car, you can be held legally liable for damage to the property of others, and for serious or fatal injuries suffered by other people. Third Party Liability will pay for such losses up to the policy limits specified on your insurance policy.

While the legal Liability requirement in Alberta is $200,000, we strongly recommend no less than $1,000,000 liability. The difference in cost can be as little as $20 for the year, an investment well worth the cost.

Accident Benefits ( Section B )

This coverage provides access to funds needed to pay medical expenses in the event of an automobile accident for injured drivers, occupants of the automobile and even pedestrians.

Accident benefits can also provide compensation for lost income if you are unable to work due to an accident.

Available Discounts

Below is a list of discounts offered by the various insurance companies. While not all discounts are offered by all companies we will do our best to ensure you have all the discounts you are entitled to.

  • Multi-policy
  • Multi-vehicle
  • Experienced driver discount
  • Theft deterrent’s
  • Commute distances
Optional Coverage

Loss of or Damage to Insured Automobile (Section C)

When the owner borrows money from a financial institution to purchase an automobile, the lender or leasor will require this coverage be purchased. Physical Damage coverage usually consists of at least one of the following:

  • All Perils - Combines both Collision and Comprehensive coverage.
  • Collision - Covers damage caused by a collision with another car, object or by Upset.
  • Comprehensive - Covers the automobile for loss or damage caused other than by Collision - e.g. windshield, theft of vehicle, vandalism, etc.
  • Specified Perils – Only covers the automobile for loss or damage caused by fire and theft and does not include any other peril or collision coverage.
  • Family Protection Coverage - Covers you with the same limits as your Liability coverage.
  • Loss of Use Endorsement - This coverage will reimburse you for the cost of a rental vehicle in the event your vehicle is disabled due to an insured peril.
  • Legal Liability for Damage to Non-Owned Autos - This endorsement provides physical damage coverage to vehicles that you may operate but do not own. E.g. A rental car.
  • Limited Waiver of Depreciation - This endorsement protects owners of new vehicles against depreciation for a specified period of time. New vehicles depreciate as soon as they are driven off the lot. This endorsement ensures that in the event of an insurable loss where the vehicle is written off, you are reimbursed for the total list price of the new vehicle not the depreciated price.
